FAQs

  • McClain Chiropractic is a warm, casual environment that welcomes patients of all ages. The first visit is typically the longest. On the initial visit, Dr. McClain will sit down with you and discuss your current complaint(s) and goals of treatment.

Following this, she will perform a non-invasive exam involving vitals (height, weight, blood pressure, etc.), neurological tests (reflexes, motor strength, sensory), and orthopedic tests (range of motion and body position tests).

After the examination, Dr. McClain will discuss the findings with you, the diagnosis, prognosis, and best mode of treatment. Usually Dr. McClain will perform a treatment on the day of the initial visit, however if special tests (x-rays, MRI, etc.) are needed before care, she will wait until the next visit to administer the treatment. Before leaving, Dr. McClain will go over any take-home activities to do that may help improve the condition.

  • Dr. McClain sets aside 45 minutes for the initial visit. There is some intake paperwork to fill out, the history, the exam, and the treatment. Time is dependent on the severity and complicating factors of the given care. After the initial visit, the typical appointments for chiropractic adjustments are 15-20 minutes.

  • Dr. McClain is very open to working on a treatment plan that works for you and your budget. If there is a medical emergency or red flag that comes up, she may insist that you set up an appointment or go right in to a M.D. or emergency room.

Dr. McClain will give you her honest professional opinion on what the chances are that chiropractic care will help your situation and what she would advise as a prudent treatment plan. Some of her patients come once or twice for a particular episode until they are pain free and are then done with treatment. Some want to come once a week or numerous times a month as they feel a "maintenance" approach keeps them biomechanically healthy and it fits into their personal budget.

Both of these examples and anything in between are just fine and are completely dependent on the person, the injury or illness and the wishes of the patient. You will never be pressured into anything, and she tries to do her best to let you know what the problem is, how much treatment(s) cost, what she would advise for a treatment plan and the prognosis.

  • Dr. McClain does not practice a technique of chiropractic care that necessitates x-rays. Basically, she will order imaging when she feels it is medically necessary for treatment or diagnosis. If there is a situation where she feels a patient may have a fracture or serious underlying disease process that can be detected by x-ray, she will send you to a medical facility where they will be performed and read by a medical radiologist.

Most of the time this isn't necessary and treatment will commence without the need for imaging. If there is a medical concern, Dr. McClain will either set up a medical consult with your local medical provider, or work within a prudent short-term treatment plan to see if chiropractic care can relieve the symptoms. If symptoms of a given condition do not improve or worsen, a medical consult with possible imaging will be advised and in some instances insisted at that time.

  • Overall the cost is naturally dependent on the severity and complexity of the case and the services that are rendered. Because Dr. McClain's chief goal is to be affordable, she is a network provider for Medicare and many of the major insurance companies; a few of them being Anthem, Encore, Sagamore, UMR and Medical Mutual.
